Hurlers who remove their helmets during a game will be requested to leave the field if a new playing rule motion is approved next year.

As a means of curbing time-wasting, it is being recommended that play continues as the person is off the field.

There have been a number of incidents in recent championships when it appeared players removed their helmets as a means of slowing down momentum.

Also at today’s Central Council meeting, the playing rules body were also asked to revisit their proposal for black cards not to carry into extra-time. There appears to be support among delegates for all cards to carry into extra-time.

Proposals by the standing committee on playing rules and sliotar and hurley regulation workgroup were approved and motions will be debated at Central Council’s meeting in December.

The structure of the 2025 Allianz Hurling League will also be decided at next month’s gathering.
