Short break takes its toll on Louth as Derry ease into next round

Derry 1-18 Louth 2-10

The notorious six-day turnaround claimed another victim as Derry claimed a five-point win over Louth in today's All-Ireland qualifiers at Owenbeg.

Lining out less than a week after their Leinster defeat by Meath, Louth were unable to handle Derry's James Kielt, who scored 1-9 as his tired opponents faded badly after half-time.

A late sending-off off for top scorer Declan Byrne capped Louth's misery.

Louth led by a point at half-time, Jim McEneaney's 15th minute penalty providing an early cushion.

But after the break Derry began to cut loose, with Mark Lynch and Emmet McGuckin also excelling.

A Declan Byrne goal kept Louth in touch but Kielt's penalty finished it four minutes from time.
