GAA propose to fine Dublin and Armagh after broken nose incident
The GAA has recommended that fines, rather than suspensions, be handed down to the Dublin and Armagh county boards.
The Central Competitions Control Committee has proposed fines of €5000 each following the controversy around the injuries to Dublin footballer Davy Byrne.
The challenge game which took place behind closed doors a number of weeks ago left Byrne with a broken nose and nasty facial injuries.
Both counties were keen to move on from the incident but the Croke Park hierarchy insisted that an investigation take place.
No video footage of the incident was available as the confrontation between Byrne and the unnamed Armagh player took place before the ball was thrown in.
Dublin manager Jim Gavin revealed in a subsequent interview that the players involved had a ‘frank’ discussion after the game.
An appeal mechanism is available to both counties but that seems unlikely following all the unwanted attention on the incident.
