Waterford star out for the season after horrific leg break

Waterford’s Pauric Mahony looks set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious leg injury during a club match last night.

The 22-year-old sustained the break while lining out for Ballygunner against Ballyduff Upper in the opening round of the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship.

Breakingnews.ie spoke to Waterford GAA today, who confirmed that Mahony has a broken tibia and will undergo surgery tomorrow.

They said it was “too early to say” what the player’s recovery time would be, but six months was the realistic prospect.

Mahony was one of the driving forces behind the Déise’s successful Allianz League campaign, scoring a goal and 90 points during the competition.

The player was also due to sit college exams this week.

The news comes as a serious blow to Waterford, who will play Cork in the opening game of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship in Semple stadium on June 7.
