Munster Council announce 36k capacity for Páirc Uí Chaoimh

Rumours that the capacity for Sunday's Munster Hurling final would be 32,000 have been proven wrong.

The Munster Council have just released a statement on their website announcing that the capacity of Páirc Uí Chaoimh for Sunday's match has been set at 36,646.

There were reports that the capacity would be reduced to 32,000 due to health and safety concerns.

According to their statement it has been approved "following completion of works at the grounds, undertakings to complete further works before Sunday, a review of last Sunday’s operations at the Munster football final and consideration of all relevant factors with a particular emphasis on Health and Safety requirements."

Cork play Limerick in a repeat of last year's Munster Hurling final. Last year's match was held in Limerick and this year was due to be played in Cork.

There had been some suggestion that the match be moved to Semple Stadium - capacity 53,000 - because of the expected demand for tickets, but the Cork stadium was decided as the location.

The statement goes on to say that as a result there will be additional tickets made available to participating counties and for public sale.

The Munster Council had announced last night that a limited number of terrace tickets for the event would go on public sale today.

There have been numerous reports of problems with the sale of tickets in outlets this morning.

The Munster Council issued a statement shortly after noon.

"Supporters looking to access gaa.tickets.ie to purchase tickets for Sunday’s game have experienced delays over the past couple of hours. We have been informed that Tickets.ie are working through the issues and their site is back up and tickets still are available for purchase."
