GAA grants exclusive global digital highlights rights to The Sun newspaper

The Irish Sun has been granted exclusive worldwide rights to show highlights of more than 170 GAA matches a year to subscribers of its iPhone app – or through the newspaper’s website on tablet, laptop or desktop.

From today, the Irish Sun app is also available to GAA fans across the world through the iPhone’s US, Australia, Canada and New Zealand app stores.

In Northern Ireland and UK, the action is available for no extra cost through a Sun + digital subscription or a subscription to any News UK title, including The Times and Sunday Times.

The rights period runs for three years, commencing at the start of the 2014 GAA Championship (on or about May 1) and ending at the start of the 2017 GAA Championship.

“Gaelic games are unlike any other sports,” said Irish Sun editor, Paul Clarkson.

“The GAA is the pride and passion of each community and the heartbeat of an Irish summer.

“It is very exciting to be able to use cutting edge technology to bring hurling and football to fans at home and the diaspora abroad.

“It will also help open up GAA to an entirely new audience around the globe.”

"This arrangement will mean the best scores, saves and general action from our big matches will be available as the games unfold, keeping supporters everywhere right up to speed with the football and hurling championships.

"We look forward to seeing the reach of our games expand even further."

Subscribers can watch one minute of the first half and two minutes of action at full-time from all key matches in the All-Ireland Championships and National Leagues each season.

That includes this weekend’s football and hurling clashes; Dublin v Laois, Cork v Waterford and Kilkenny v Offaly.

The Irish Sun’s panel of GAA pundits Graham Geraghty, Babs Keating, Michael Duignan and Collie Moran will also provide expert video analysis as well as extras.

Priced at €4.49 a month, the Irish Sun app will also show exclusive digital clips from next season’s Celtic and SPFL games, the English FA Cup and the Champions League and Europa League from 2015.
