VIDEO: League debutant O’Brien hits wonder goal for beaten Kerry

Talk of goal of the season is cheap after just three rounds of National Football League action, but Kerry’s Stephen O’Brien will be in with a shout come September after finding the back of the net in Castlebar on Sunday.

With Mayo leading by a point after 38 minutes of play, the young Kenmare wing forward picked the ball up, spun in behind his marker and let fly with a cultured right-foot shot from 20 metres out.

Having shown great strength to resist the challenge of Mayo full-back Ger Cafferky, O’Brien unleashed a curling, looping shot which nestled beautifully in the top-right hand corner of Robbie Hennelly’s net.

While it wasn’t enough to prevent Kerry from slipping to their third successive league defeat of the year, O’ Brien’s moment of magic gave the Kingdom’s supporters something to marvel over on the long trip home from MacHale Park.
