Six of the best for Dublin footballers

All-Ireland SFC winning captain Stephen Cluxton is one of six Dublin players to be included in the GAA/GPA All-Stars Football team for the 2013 season.

As expected, the Sam Maguire Cup winners contributed the most players to the All-Stars line-up which was announced tonight. Their goalkeeper Cluxton won his fifth award - the same amount of All-Stars that Dublin's legendary net minder John O'Leary won during his playing days.

Defenders Rory O'Carroll and Cian O'Sullivan, midfielder Michael Darragh Macauley and forwards Paul Flynn and Bernard Brogan were the other Dubs to make the 2013 All-Stars side.

Connacht champions and beaten All-Ireland finalists Mayo have four players in the team, although their most potent forward Cillian O'Connor, who scored three goals against both London and Donegal in the Championship, failed to make the cut.

Tyrone and Kerry, two counties that have had their fair share of title success so far this century, are also represented in the team as are Ulster champions Monaghan who had one of their best ever All-Stars night with Colin Walshe and first-time recipient Conor McManus both honoured.

McManus, O'Carroll, O'Sullivan, Keith Higgins, Colm Boyle, Aidan O'Shea and James O'Donoghue were the seven first-time winners in this year's football All-Stars.

Notably, the selected half-forward line of Paul Flynn, Colm Cooper and Seán Cavanagh boast a combined haul of 16 All-Star awards between them, with Kerry legend Cooper leading the way with no fewer than eight All-Stars during his stellar inter-county career.
