Tyrone's Gormley hit with one-match ban

A one-match retrospective ban could keep experienced defender Conor Gormley out of Tyrone's All-Ireland SFC semi-final against Mayo on Sunday week.

The GAA's Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) reviewed video footage of an incident involving Gormley and Monaghan's Dessie Mone during the Red Hands' recent quarter-final victory at Croke Park.

TV replays showed Gormley striking Mone with his hand during a brief altercation. The same half-time row saw Tyrone forward Martin Penrose red carded just before the start of the second half.

Penrose will automatically miss the Mayo game and Gormley could now join him on the sidelines due to the proposed suspension.

The CCCC looked into Gormley's involvement in the incident as it is understood that neither Meath referee Cormac Reilly or his match officials saw the aforementioned offence at the time.

The Tyrone County Board have reportedly yet to receive notification of Gormley's ban but they are likely to take his case to the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) and if necessary, the Central Appeals Committee (CAC).
