Wicklow managers staying on

Harry Murphy and Casey O'Brien will remain in charge of the Wicklow senior footballers and hurlers respectively for next year.

The pair have been re-appointed with Murphy set for his third year at the helm of the football panel, who suffered a humiliating 2-21 to 0-2 defeat to Armagh in the first round of the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers in June.

2013 was largely a year to forget for Murphy's men as apart from their 1-15 to 0-16 preliminary round win over Longford in the Leinster Championship, they failed to win any of their seven league games as they were relegated from Division 3 and were edged out by Meath in a Leinster quarter-final in Aughrim.

Bouncing back to the third tier of the league will be a key aim for next season, as well as solidifying the county's underage structures as the newly established 'guidance group', which includes current player Patrick McWalter, targets Leinster titles at minor, Under-21 and senior level over the next ten years.

Meanwhile, former dual player Casey O'Brien will shortly begin preparations for his fifth season at the helm of the Wicklow hurlers.

O'Brien has been close to annexing a first Christy Ring Cup for the Garden County, finishing as runners-up in both 2011 and 2012. This season they lost a Division 2A relegation play-off to Leinster rivals Kildare and gaining promotion is top of the list for next term.
