Good and bad injury news for Dubs

Key defender Rory O'Carroll will miss Dublin's upcoming Allianz Football League clashes with Down and Donegal after undergoing ankle surgery.

O'Carroll started at full-back in the Dubs' Division 1 wins over Cork, Kerry, Mayo and Kildare, and his absence was keenly felt against Tyrone at Croke Park on Saturday night as Stephen O'Neill guided the Red Hands to an 0-18 to 1-14 victory.

The Kilmacud Crokes clubman missed that game having had an operation on his injured ankle in midweek.

O'Carroll is expected to be sidelined for up to four weeks and with Dublin well-placed to reach the semi-finals, he is in danger of missing a potential last-four date on Sunday, April 14.

The Division 1 final is due to be played two weeks later on April 28.

But in more positive news for the Dubs, 2012 All-Star Paul Flynn and former Footballer of the Year Bernard Brogan should be fit for the Down game at Croke Park next Saturday.

Flynn injured his left hamstring during the closing stages of the loss to Tyrone but has recovered well, while Brogan, who picked up a leg injury in training and missed the Tyrone match, is due to resume in attack.

Meanwhile, their forward colleague Ciarán Kilkenny is undergoing a scan today on the knee injury he picked up in the opening minutes against Tyrone.
