Mayo and Down hurlers record victories in Division 2B
Down and Mayo claimed wins over Roscommon and Armagh respectively in Division 2B of the Allianz Hurling League today.
Down made home advantage count as they registered a 2-24 to 1-12 victory over Roscommon at Pairc Esler.
In a repeat of the Bord na Mona Kehoe Shield final last month, Down were far more convincing as they led for the bulk of this contest.
Ger Monan's side were 2-13 to 0-9 to the good at half-time with Danny Toner (1-2) and Gareth Johnston (1-3) netting the hosts' goals.
Cathal Kelly, who finished with 1-6, tried his utmost to keep Roscommon in touch, and netted a goal for the visitors on the restart.
However, Down were in superb form with eight different scorers - Paul Braniff (0-12) led their charge. James Coyle, Michael Ennis (0-2 each), Andy Savage, Paul Sheehan and Michael Turley (0-1) also registered points for the hosts.
Meanwhile, teenager Sean Regan scored 2-6 as Mayo took a 4-16 to 3-12 victory over Armagh at Elverys MacHale Park.
Mayo led by 2-9 to 2-4 at half-time, with Regan and Stephen Hoban netting goals to ensure a 10-point lead in the 30th minute, but Armagh bounced back.
Fiachra Bradley and Conor Corvan struck goals for the visitors before the break.
However, Regan's second goal arrived within a minute of the restart. Donal O'Brien added a fourth goal midway through the half, following a penalty strike from the hosts' goalkeeper.
