Club hurling championships round-up
Retired Wexford stalwart Darren Stamp helped Oulart-the Ballagh edge out Kilmacud Crokes in a tense AIB Leinster Club SHC quarter-final tie at Parnell Park.
Oulart stood firm to take a 1-13 to 1-12 verdict despite a determined second half revival from the Dublin champions, who were left ruing a first half penalty awarded against them.
Jack Doughan was adjudged to have fouled Nicky Kirwan in injury-time, allowing Kirwan to fire the penalty to net and give his side a 1-8 to 0-9 interval lead.
Conor O'Leary flung over three placed balls from distance in the opening period, while Paul Roche also impressed in attack and Stamp hoovered up plenty of ball at half-back.
The penalty goal looked to be the turning point as Rory Jacob, Kirwan and Darren Nolan all raised white flags for the Wexford club within five minutes of the restart.
Kilmacud showed their battling qualities in horrendous conditions though as Niall Corcoran and Rory O'Carroll tightened up in defence and free-taker Seanie McGrath sent over some inspirational scores.
McGrath got his boot to a point attempt from Ross O'Carroll with four minutes left to get Crokes level and set up a fascinating finish to an exciting game.
However, goal scorer Kirwan had the final say as he landed the match-winning free in injury-time to send Oulart into the next round.
Meanwhile, Offaly champions Kilcormac-Killoughey got the better of Mount Leinster Rangers from Carlow in their Leinster quarter-final tie at Dr. Cullen Park.
Kilcormac pushed on in the second half after the sides were locked level at 0-7 apiece at half-time.
Talismanic captain Ciaran Slevin took his personal tally to 1-7 as his goal nudged the visitors into a three-point lead, and they had five to spare at the finish - 1-11 to 0-9.
Laois' Rathdowney-Errill were inspired by a terrific performance from Ross King as they defeated Clonkill of Westmeath in Portlaoise, edging home by 1-12 to 0-12.
King's sharpshooting from placed balls put Rathdowney 0-7 to 0-4 ahead at the break and although Clonkill replied with four straight points, John Purcell's goal got Rathdowney back on track.
King then showed his mettle as he planted three late shots between the posts to guide Rathdowney to their first ever win at this level.
