Wexford select O'Brien for manager's role
Westmeath native Aidan O'Brien has won the race to replace Jason Ryan as manager of the Wexford senior footballers.
O'Brien will be ratified as Ryan's successor at a meeting of the Wexford County Board tomorrow night, having been recommended by the Seamus Fitzhenry-led football advisory committee.
It is seen as a natural progression for O'Brien who has had underage success in the Model county, notably guiding Good Counsel College to an All-Ireland Colleges title in 1999 and he has also managed the Wexford Under-21s to a Leinster final appearance.
At club level, the Good Counsel deputy principal managed Horeswood to a Wexford Senior Football Championship crown, and won a county junior title as coach of Geraldine O'Hanrahans two years ago.
The Adamstown clubman was previously linked with the Wexford senior job before Ryan was installed in 2007.
