McIver appointed as Derry football boss

Brian McIver has been appointed as Derry senior football manager, it has been confirmed today.

The appointment of the former Donegal boss comes after meeting of the County Committee last night.

McIver succeeds John Brennan after a spell with the Derry Minor footballers.

Paddy Tally and Paddy Crozier will form part of the former Donegal manager’s backroom team.

McIver said: “There is plenty of talent in Derry football and with the support of Derry County Board, Club Derry, our sponsors, our clubs and supporters I hope to see Derry begin to progress.

“In football there are no quick fixes, but with everyone pulling in the same direction, I know that Derry are capable of challenging for honours.

“I have been very impressed with some of the talent on show in the recent club championship games, and in particular the young talent. I have also been impressed with the crowds at those games.

“I am very fortunate to have a strong backroom team in place and hereafter it is down to hard work.

“I want a positive approach. That way we can get the best out of every player.”
