O'Neill: Goal-line technology 'in the mix'

GAA President Liam O'Neill has said that goal-line technology is not part of their football review but is in their thoughts for the future.

O'Neill had been talking about the use of technology with regards to assessing whether or not scores should be awarded.

An Eoghan O'Gara point was awarded to Dublin during Sunday's Leinster final after it appeared that linesman Maurice Deegan told referee Marty Duffy to given the point after looking at the big screen.

However, the GAA insist that Deegan did not use the screen before informing Duffy that the score should have stood.

The association has been experimenting with hawkeye score detection technology but it has now been suggested that video replays should be used in grounds where they're available.

This morning the football review committee website is launched and O'Neill has said the committee may look at the use of video replays but it won't happen this year.

Mr O'Neill said: "Well that's a decsion, say that if you go with it, on certain grounds, you are saying that only teams that play on that ground (get it) and that opens up a second debate.

"It is in the mix at the moment, it's probably a separate issue from the football review but it might well be a part of what they might suggest to us to do, so at the moment we are not going to do it.

"It clearly is not going to happen before the end of this summer's championship, but in the meantime we will rely on the skill and the speed of the decision-making of our officials and that is one the examples of that working in real-time, in quick time and we are pleased with that."
