Limerick face Clare in hurling qualifiers

A mouth-watering Munster derby between Limerick and Clare is the highlight of the draw for the third phase of the All-Ireland SHC qualifiers.

The draw took place this morning and was broadcast live on TV3's 'Ireland AM' programme, with GAA President Liam O'Neill and former Dublin dual star Shane Ryan drawing the teams out.

Clare, having seen off the challenge of Dublin in Ennis on Saturday, will clash with provincial rivals Limerick who overcame Laois and Antrim in the previous two rounds.

Clare and Limerick met twice in this year's Allianz Hurling League with the Banner men winning both matches, taking a 2-24 to 1-13 verdict in round 1 of Division 1B and returning to the Gaelic Grounds in April to beat John Allen's side by 0-21 to 1-16 in the divisional decider.

The other third phase game will see Wexford, the conquerors of Westmeath and Carlow, battling it out with Cork for a place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

Both Wexford and Cork have managers in their first years - Liam Dunne and Jimmy Barry-Murphy - and the pressure is on for them to reach the Championship's last-eight as both counties crashed out in the qualifiers in 2011.

The Rebels reached the third phase thanks to Saturday's 1-26 to 2-16 home victory over Offaly during which their captain Pat Horgan top scored with 1-10.

The third phase games have been scheduled to take place next Saturday (July 14), with the GAA's Central Competitions Control Committee to confirm the venues and throw-in times.
