Hurling League Division 3A/3B round-up

Tyrone took top spot in Division 3A of the Allianz Hurling League with the Red Hands and Monaghan taking wins today, while Sligo and Louth shared the spoils.

At Letterkenny, Tyrone finished with 13 men but claimed an impressive 0-24 to 1-10 victory.

Conor and Martin Grogan both picked up second yellows in the second half, but the visitors had firmly laid the foundations for the win over the opening 35 minutes.

Tyrone led by 0-15 to 0-2 at the interval with Justin Kelly, Aidan Kelly, Damien Casey, Sean Og Grogan and Seamus Hagan all on target.

Niall Campbell netted the only goal of the game on the restart, but Tyrone always looked comfortable and sealed a nine-point success with four late Casey scores.

Monaghan carved out a 0-16 to 0-11 win over Fingal at Swords this afternoon.

Mattie Lennon's charges were impressive throughout with Michael McHugh registering 12 points - eleven of which were frees.

Trevor Hillard was also in superb form for the visitors in a game which saw them hold an 0-8 to 0-4 half-time lead.

Damien Burke, meanwhile, earned a share of the spoils for Sligo as they played out a 2-13 to 1-16 draw with Louth at Markievicz Park.

The visitors were inspired by Shane Fennell (0-8) in the opening half and held a 0-10 to 0-5 interval lead.

Sligo bounced back on the restart thanks to Mark Burke's 40th-minute goal. However, Louth responded with Brian Corcoran netting his side's only goal.

A Keith Raymond penalty goal levelled the tie at 2-12 to 1-15 late in normal time.

Fennell fired over what looked to be the winning point for Louth in injury-time, but Burke showed great composure to equalise with the last puck of the game.

In the only game in Division 3B, Fermanagh recorded a 0-14 to 1-10 triumph over Warwickshire at Irvinestown.

The sides were tied at 0-8 to 1-5 at the break. They continued to be well balanced in the second half until a brace of pointed frees from Ryan Bogue gave Fermanagh a one point lead late on.

Warwickshire had a chance to share the spoils, but a late missed free from the visitors was the last strike of the contest, as Fermanagh held out for a slender one-point win.
