Cusack replaces O'Neill as Cork hurling captain

Much-decorated goalkeeper Donal Óg Cusack has been chosen as the captain of the Cork senior hurlers for the 2012 campaign.

The players were informed of Cusack's appointment this afternoon with new manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy installing forward Patrick Horgan as the team's vice-captain.

Cusack, who turns 35 in March, remains arguably the best net minder in inter-county hurling. His honours with the Rebels include three All-Ireland and five Munster titles and two All-Star awards.

He is highly regarded for his leadership qualities with both Cloyne and Cork and is the current Chairman of the Gaelic Players Association.

Confirming the decision, Barry-Murphy said: "(Last season's captain) Shane O'Neill has stepped down as he suffered a number of injuries over the past twelve months and now wishes to concentrate on his own game.

"As a result, the management made the decision to appoint Donal Óg as captain, with Patrick Horgan vice-captain."
