Limerick run continues against Antrim

Limerick made it seven wins in seven games in this season's Allianz Hurling League, blasting clear of Antrim in the second half at Loughgiel this afternoon.

Already assured of their place in the Division 2 final, Donal O'Grady's charges put in a workmanlike display against the Saffrons, who have finished in fourth spot.

Limerick made the early running and were 0-4 to 0-0 ahead after just eight minutes, with Declan Hannon scoring from a free and from play, and James Ryan and Paul Browne also on target.

Free-taker Neil McManus and Karl Stewart opened Antrim's account, but they faced an uphill task following the concession of a 16th minute goal to Kevin Downes.

David Breen passed for full-forward Downes to rampage through the hosts' defence and slam a well-placed shot to the net. The Shannonsiders added points from Hannon (0-2) and Browne to lead by 1-7 to 0-5.

McManus (0-2) and Barry McFall kept the Ulstermen in touch and the deficit stood at 1-10 to 0-6 as the sides headed for the dressing rooms at half-time.

Corner forward Sean Tobin came into his own in the second half, scoring two goals. The first was set up by Downes, who added a fourth late on.

McManus and McFall strung together four points for Antrim's best spell, but Limerick were never really troubled and now face into a promotion-deciding clash with Clare.
