Game Carlow outgunned by Limerick goals

Limerick's greater goal-scoring ability helped them get the better of a game Carlow side at sunny Dr. Cullen Park this afternoon.

Sean Tobin scored a goal in each half for the Shannonsides and Paudie McNamara also rippled the Carlow net, as Donal O'Grady's men collected their fifth straight win in Division 2.

The Carlow defence gave little away in the opening quarter and points from Ruairi Dunbar, Eoin Nolan and Eddie Byrne saw them keep pace with the league leaders.

However, Limerick went on a scoring spree coming up to half-time, outscoring the hosts by 1-06 to 0-01, to take a decisive 1-14 to 0-07 lead into the break.

Richie McCarthy, McNamara, Brendan Hourigan, James Ryan and Tobin all fired over points and the latter also broke through for the opening goal.

Carlow, who won two and lost two of their previous four games, began the second half with a point from Dunbar.

The Barrowsiders were not overawed and produced a strong finish which was topped off by a late goal from midfielder Nolan.

Mark Brennan also added his name to the scoresheet, but those goals from Tobin and McNamara had ended the game as a contest.
