Dublin rocked by Hiney injury

Dublin captain Stephen Hiney will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a serious knee injury.

He ruptured the anterior cruciate in his knee during the second half of last Sunday's Allianz Hurling League win over Wexford at Wexford Park.

The Ballyboden St. Enda's defender was stretchered off after 46 minutes of the game.

The Dubs went on to claim their third win of the Division 1 campaign, moving to the top of the table.

Hiney's injury is a big blow to Anthony Daly's hopes of securing further silverware for the capital after their recent Walsh Cup success.

Dublin's current injury list also includes David Treacy and Shane Stapleton, who are nursing knee injuries, and 2009 All-Star Alan McCrabbe who is recovering from hip surgery.

Commenting on Hiney's setback, Dublin selector Ciarán Hetherton said: "Stephen is devastated by the news but he is a strong character and will get every support in his recovery.

"He has been an inspirational captain and player and his position will not be easily filled."
