Laois come good in the end to start campaign with victory

Laois showed plenty of character to see of Meath and get their Division 2 campaign under way with a good win at O’Moore Park.

A John O’Loughlin goal in the fourth minute helped them to a 1-7 to 0-7 interval lead but they were pegged back approaching the final quarter when Meath sub Nigel Crawford found the net.

Justin McNulty’s men responded impressively though with points from John O’Loughlin and two frees from Michael John Tierney, who finished with 0-9 in total and though Brian Farrell reduced the deficit briefly, Brendan Quigley finished a good move with a point to secure the honours.
