The Derry County Board have announced that Ger Rogan has been appointed as the county's new senior and Under-21 hurling manager.

Rogan played at corner back for Antrim when they contested the 1989 All-Ireland final, and was a selector for the Saffrons under Dinny Cahill.

He was ratified in his new position at a meeting of the Derry County Board last night and County Chairman John Keenan welcomed the former Antrim star's appointment.

"We are delighted to have Ger on board as the manager of our senior and Under-21 hurlers," said Keenan.

"To have a man like Ger who has played in an All-Ireland SHC final overseeing our adult hurling teams is a great boost for hurling in the county.

"He also has a fine record in management and having worked with a number of clubs here in Derry, he is very familiar with the hurling scene in our county."

Keenan also praised the work of outgoing manager James O'Kane, who indicated his intention to stand from the post to County Board some weeks back.

"I would like to thank James and his backroom team for the massive effort that they have put into working for the betterment of Derry hurling during their tenure.

"James' commitment to the development of hurling in our county is second to none and the Derry County Board wish him all the best for future."

Derry will play Armagh in their opening game in Division 3A of the National Hurling League on Sunday, February 13.
