Micko staying with Wicklow for another year

Mick O'Dwyer was tonight confirmed as Wicklow senior football manager for 2011, appearing before a press conference at the Arklow Bay Hotel this evening.

The installation of O'Dwyer as manager for a further 12 months ensures that the Waterville native will be involved with a senior inter-county team as either a player or manager for a 57th year.

Wicklow's loss to Cavan in the first round of this year's All-Ireland SFC qualifiers looked like it had signalled the end of O'Dwyer's involvement with the Garden County after four years in charge.

However, O'Dwyer took time out to reflect on whether or not to commit to Wicklow for another term, and tonight he confirmed that 2011 will definitely be his last year in inter-county management.

"A lot of people were thinking I wasn’t coming back to Wicklow," he said at the press conference.

"A few counties who proposed me for management came as a result of nominations from their clubs.

"I went to each of those counties and told them that I wasn't interested in those roles.

"If I wasn't to be Wicklow manager in 2011, I was not going to be involved in inter-county management."
