Brogan to challenge for Kick Fada crown

Dublin's Bernard Brogan, who is hotly tipped to be named Footballer of the Year, is one of a top class list of stars who will be aiming for All-Ireland glory at the MBNA Kick Fada event in Bray Emmets GAA Club this Saturday.

The 2009 champion, Brian Sheridan from Meath, will return to defend his title, looking to improve on his winning kick of 71 metres.

Four-time champion, Mark Herbert from Kildare, will also be hoping to top the field and eclipse his world record kick of 73 metres.

GAA President Christy Cooney will oversee the 11th annual Kick Fada competition at the north County Wicklow club, with legendary commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh lending his familiar voice to the occasion.

In the senior women's competition, defending champion Suzanne Hughes from Dublin will try to retain the title against a strong field which includes former winners Irene Munnelly, Grainne Nulty and Mary Sheridan, all from Meath.

Over 20 inter-county stars will compete for the prestigious crown of 2010 All-Ireland MBNA Kick Fada champion in both the men's and women's categories.
