Daly's Dubs drawn against Clare

Dublin manager Anthony Daly will have to plot the downfall of his native county Clare in phase 2 of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship qualifiers.

Dublin manager Anthony Daly will have to plot the downfall of his native county Clare in phase 2 of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship qualifiers.

Daly's Dublin side, beaten recently by Kilkenny, will take on beaten Munster semi-finalists Clare on Saturday week (July 10).

The Dubs received home advantage in this morning's draw, which was performanced live on TV3's 'Ireland AM' programme by GAA President Christy Cooney and former Offaly hurler Joe Errity.

Bowl A contained Dublin and Offaly, the beaten semi-finalists from the Leinster Championship, and Bowl B had Clare and Limerick, the losers from the penultimate stage of the Munster Championship.

Offaly, who took Galway to two games, were drawn first and will host Limerick on July 10. The Faithfuls will be favoured to progress against Justin McCarthy's second string side.

A home win will be expected, but when the counties met in National League Division 1 this year, the result was a close one with Offaly taking a 2-17 to 3-13 verdict in Tullamore.

Former Clare All-Ireland winning team-mates Anthony Daly and Davy Fitzgerald will go head-to-head in the second match of phase 2. Daly will be hoping for an improved effort from his charges when Dublin entertain a Clare outfit that succumbed to Waterford three weeks ago.

Both ties will be played on Saturday, July 10, with the venues and throw-in times to be confirmed.
