Veteran Waterford player Tony Browne is a major doubt for the Decies' Munster SHC quarter-final against Clare on June 7, after picking up a knock in a recent challenge game against Kilkenny.

"We played Kilkenny in a challenge match last week and I gave my groin a small bit of a tear," Browne said at the launch of the 2010 VHI Cul camps at Croke Park.

"It was unfortunate, as I was back at full-flight in training. To pick something up three weeks from the Clare game, it's a bit frustrating to tell you the truth."

However, the Mount Sion clubman is hopeful that he will be back in action sooner rather than later.

"I'm hoping that I haven't done as much damage as I thought, and that it will respond over the next two to three weeks."

A starting berth against Clare is unlikely for Browne, although he does hope to play some role in the Bank Holiday Monday tussle at Semple Stadium.

"Well I hope to be available for selection. The way it is at the moment, there is a lot of younger lads coming into this team. There are a lot spots up for grabs.

"Training was going very well for me over the last couple of weeks. To pick up that (injury) was very frustrating to tell you the truth.

"I was getting to where I need to get to, and to injure myself it's not good. At the same time I can do a good bit of decent work in the gym."
