Walsh on way back for Carlow

Thomas Walsh will be back in a Carlow jersey in mid-May, after returning to the training last night following his four-year stint with the Wicklow senior football team.

Walsh famously ended his involvement with his native county in 2006 and transferred to the Bray Emmets club, and subsequently lined out for Wicklow in both league and Championship games.

His decision to don the Wicklow colours instead of a Carlow jersey caused huge debate at the time, but his involvement under then new manager Mick O'Dwyer was to provide a huge boost to the Garden County.

Last year Walsh was a key part of Wicklow's best ever Championship run, which stretched to six games.

Walsh walked away last winter from Wicklow, and has not yet featured in this year's O'Byrne Cup or National League campaigns with Carlow.

Despite one round of games being left to play, Luke Dempsey's side ended their Division 4 campaign last weekend as they have been handed a bye in the final round.

Wicklow host Carlow in the opening game of the 2010 GAA Leinster Senior Football Championship on May 16 at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise; with Walsh's return to his native county giving added spice to this encounter.
