National Hurling League: Division 3A round up
Today saw Kerry claim top spot in Division 3A of the National Hurling League thanks to a comfortable 23-point win, while London and Derry also triumphed in their matches.
At Austin Stack Park in Tralee, Meath were no match for Kerry as the Kingdom side mustered a 3-30 to 1-10 victory.
Despite the comfortable nature of this Kerry win, it was Meath who foraged into an early lead. Stephen Clynch, Nicky Horan and Niall Hackett were among those who tried hard for TJ Reilly's charges, but the visitors quickly became unstuck.
The hosts bagged 2-6 without reply, and a brace of Gary O'Brien goals and nine points from Shane Brick helped the Kingdom to a deserved lead.
John Meyler's side failed to ease up with Mike Conway netted their third goal, while the ever accurate Brick added six more points.
Derry are in second place in the division, with a a one-point scoring difference lead over London. This afternoon, the Oak Leafers earned their first win thanks to a 3-12 to 1-7 victory over a fancied Mayo outfit at McHale Park.
Derry led by 1-5 to 0-4 at the interval, with half-forward Oisin McCloskey netting their opening goal.
Martin Brennan's side kept in touch thanks to scores from Barry Moran (0-4), Keith Higgins and Niall Murphy.
But despite Mayo grabbing a goal from Kenny Robinson, a brace of Paddy Henry goals set the Oak Leafers on their way to victory.
Elsewhere, London beat Armagh on a 4-7 to 1-15 scoreline to record their first victory of the league run.
