UCC need extra time to get into final
UCC 4-16 UL 2-14, (after extra-time)
A strong performance in extra-time earned the students of UCC the first place in this year's Waterford Crystal Cup final, following a win over UL at Buttevant.
UCC's goal hunger edged the reigning Fitzgibbon Cup champions into next weekend's decider against either Waterford or Clare.
The sides were level at the interval in normal time, and again at full-time, in a game which saw Erin's Own clubman Eoghan Murphy top score for UCC with 2-7.
This all-college battle was nip and tuck throughout with the sides tied at 0-6 to 1-3 at the interval.
UL kept in touch through a brace of Michael Gleeson goals, both in normal time.
The Cork outfit held that extra edge and with Murphy and Clare Senior star Darach Honan helping themselves to goals, the UL defence eventually gave away.
UCC will face either Clare or Waterford, who meet tomorrow, in the decider on Sunday February 7.
Former Clare team-mates Ger O'Loughlin and Davy Fitzgerald face off in the second semi-final tomorrow at Ballyduff Upper.
