McCarthy to remain at the helm

Justin McCarthy will remain as manager of the Limerick Senior hurlers for 2010 following an emergency meeting of the Limerick County Board tonight.

Delegates at the meeting backed a motion which read: "The Senior hurling management team of 2009 be allowed complete their term in 2010."

The vote took place just before 10pm with 125 votes cast including members of the Limerick County Board and delegates from the 69 clubs present, with a result emerging by a margin of 70 votes for and 54 against with one spoilt vote.

It means that McCarthy and his selectors Brian Ryan and Liam Garvey will take charge for next years campaign despite the withdrawal of services by a number of players.

Eight players have quit inter-county hurling, since McCarthy axed 12 names from the current squad.

21 players met with their club representatives and county board members on Saturday night to discuss issues with McCarthy.

The Cork native guided the Shannonsiders to an All-Ireland semi-final in this year’s campaign.
