Holmes bows out with Tyrone

Tyrone midfielder Colin Holmes has called time on his senior inter county career, having won All-Ireland SFC medals in 2003, 2005 and 2008.

He enjoyed a very successful run with the Red Hands, helping them win Ulster Championships in 1996, 2001, 2003, 2007 and 2009 and National League titles in 2002 and 2003.

Holmes is a school teacher in Armagh. He lined out at full-back in the Armagh Harps side that lost to Pearse Og in the county final last month.

The 33-year-old informed Tyrone manager Mickey Harte of his decision to retire from the senior panel in recent days.

Injuries hampered his selection chances for Tyrone in recent seasons, but Holmes did start last year's All-Ireland final after taking on a substitute's role in the 2003 and 2005 deciders.
