Limerick's Moran calls time on intercounty career

Limerick's Ollie Moran has retired from intercounty hurling at the age of 33.

The Ahane man graduated from U21 level to first play for his county 12 years ago when he helped them win the league that year.

His early league success with his county was supplemented by club honours with Ahane in the shape of three county championship medals in 1998, 1999 and 2004 and five Railway Cup medals with Munster.

He won an All Star in 2007 as the Treaty made an unlikely run to the All-Ireland SHC final, under Richie Bennis, before losing out to Kilkenny.

The Limerick County Board said: "It is with regret that the Limerick County GAA Board have been informed of a decision by our senior hurling star Ollie Moran to retire from intercounty hurling after a long and distinguished career.

"Ollie is one of life’s gentlemen and on behalf of the Board, we wish Ollie, his wife, Lisa and baby son, David, the very best of luck in his retirement."
