Moran doubtful for Mayo's quarter-final tilt

Full-forward Barry Moran has emerged as a major doubt for Mayo's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final clash with either Limerick or Meath on Sunday week.

A goalscorer last time out in the Connacht final win over Galway, Moran broke two bones in his hand at last night's county training session.

The Castlebar Mitchels clubman has a full cast on and faces a race against time to recover for the last-eight date with the winners of Saturday evening's final round four qualifier.

He has started all three of Mayo's Championship matches so far this summer, against New York, Roscommon and Galway.

Should Moran not make it, teenager Aidan O'Shea could move across to fill the full-forward berth with Conor Mortimer, an influential substitute against Galway, possibly being added to the line-up. Tom Parsons could also come into contention.

The GAA have fixed the delayed quarter-final between the newly-crowned Connacht champions and the winners of Limerick v Meath for Croke Park on Sunday week (August 9).

It will be part of a triple-header, sandwiched between the Minor and Senior Hurling Championship semi-finals between Kilkenny and Tipperary and Kilkenny and Waterford respectively.

GAA fixtures - Sunday, August 9:

All-Ireland MHC Semi-Final: Kilkenny v Tipperary, Croke Park, 12pm

All-Ireland SFC Quarter-Final: Mayo v Limerick or Meath, Croke Park, 2pm

All-Ireland SHC Semi-Final: Kilkenny v Waterford, Croke Park, 4pm
