Murphy a doubt for Cork hurlers

Although Cork manager Denis Walsh last night named Shane Murphy in his starting line-up for tomorrow's All-Ireland SHC Phase 3 qualifier against Galway, it has emerged that a major doubt hangs over the Erin's Own defender's fitness.

Corner-back Murphy gave an outstanding performance for the Rebels in their 3-19 to 1-12 win over Offaly in Tullamore in the last round.

However, he sustained a collarbone injury in training and is rated extremely doubtful to start tomorrow's second meeting of the sides in exactly 12 months.

It is expected that Sarsfields clubman Conor O'Sullivan will instead line out in the number 4 jersey.

Bride Rovers clubman Brian Murphy only returned to the Rebels panel last week, but it is expected that O'Sullivan will get the nod ahead of him should Shane Murphy not be fit to start.

Cork beat Galway a year ago at Semple Stadium by 0-23 to 2-15 in a memorable qualifier clash.

Tomorrow's game is the 31st Championship meeting of the sides with the balance of victories swinging 26-4 in Cork's favour.
