Sammon announces Galway side

Galway manager Liam Sammon has recalled 2001 footballer of the year Declan Meehan to his team for Sunday's Connacht SFC Semi-Final against Sligo.

The reigning Connacht champions have made three changes to their side from the team that beat London at Ruislip, with Joe Bergin and Matthew Clancy also back in the starting line-up.

Meehan is a direct replacement for left-half-back Gary Sice, while Bergin returns from injury in place of the injured Damien Dunleavy.

Nicky Joyce, omitted from the squad because of disciplinary reasons is replaced by Clancy in attack.

Tribesmen boss Sammon hasn't ruled out a return for Joyce to the squad.

"There's no doubt about it (that we will see Nicky back). He is just taking a break from the panel," Sammon revealed.

"He is having a problem with his back as well so maybe this break will do him the world of good really."

Sligo beat Galway in the 2007 Connacht SFC Final at Dr Hyde Park, and Sammon says that his side can't take the Yeatsmen for granted.

"I watched the league final against Antrim and they were very, very good in that game. I feel that they are playing like they were two years ago when they won the Connacht title.

"They won that with a certain bit of panache at the time. I feel that they are going to be a real difficult challenge for us."

Although not involved two years ago, Sammon is hopeful that his side still have a bit of hurt from that game inside them, and that they can channel this to a positive effect this weekend.

"I would hope that there would be. I've no doubt that that's there. It's fine to have it but you have to convert it into your attitude on the day as well, and whether or not you are going to be aggressive enough in everything that you are doing really."

GALWAY (SF v Sligo): A Faherty; D Burke, F Hanley, N Coyne; G Bradshaw, D Blake, D Meehan; P Conway, G O'Donnell; C Bane, P Joyce, J Bergin; S Armstrong, M Meehan, M Clancy.
