Connacht SFC clash may be moved from McHale Park
Mayo GAA have a week to get McHale Park, Castlebar in good condition for their June 20 clash with Roscommon in the Connacht SFC, it has emerged.
The GAA's Connacht Council will meet next Thursday to decide whether or not the newly renovated McHale Park will pass health and safety requirements.
A delegation of officials from the provincial body's Development Committee were in Castlebar yesterday to inspect the venue.
They will make a return visit next Thursday before a full Connacht Council meeting takes place on the same evening to make a final decision on the hosting of the provincial semi-final.
Concerns had been raised that the game could not go ahead at the Mayo venue because of health and safety grounds due to extensive redevelopment work.
The work being undertaken at the moment includes a new stand, redeveloped TV and Radio facilities and redeveloped toilet facilities.
At last night's meeting of the Connacht Council, the Council were given assurances by the Mayo Co Board that the work would be completed on time and that the work would go ahead as scheduled.
In the region of 25,000 spectators are expected to attend the Saturday evening encounter, which has been pencilled in for a 5pm start.
