GAA: Managers will not receive All-Ireland medals

All-Ireland winning managers will not receive medals for their efforts after an attempt by the Rule Book Task Force to enshrine this into rule was not adopted at GAA Congress in Douglas, Cork this morning.

The awarding of medals had previously been approved by the GAA's Central Council with Kilkenny's victorious three-in-a-row winning manager Brian Cody and Tyrone boss Mickey Harte the first managers to receive All-Ireland medals for their efforts last September.

However, this was only a temporary arrangement and required the approval of Congress with the vote not receiving the required two-thirds margin.

Former president Sean Kelly called for a distinction to be made on the type of medal awarded to managers, while Dublin expressed their opposition to the motion stating that All-Ireland medals should be for players only.

A Tyrone motion to extend the presentation of medals to managers of winning sides at All-Ireland and provincial levels for Senior, Under-21 and Minor grade along with Interprovincial competitions was withdrawn after the Rule Book Task Force motion failed to get the required two-thirds.
