Wexford smash Offaly
Wexford 5-14 Offaly 0-17
Wexford joined Offaly at the top of the Allianz NHL Division 2 table as they scored a comprehensive victory over their Leinster rivals at Wexford Park.
Derek Molloy's late point was enough to keep Offaly at the summit on scoring difference - +63 as against Wexford's +62 - but the Models are now level on league points with Molloy's side (10 points each).
Goals from David Redmond (2), Rory Jacob, Diarmuid Lyng and Stephen Banville blew Offaly out of the water and ended their five-match winning streak in the division.
Offaly leaked an early goal to Redmond but points from Cathal Parlon, Daniel Currams, Shane Dooley and Molloy had the visitors ahead.
But the old adage that goals win games rung true as Lyng set up Jacob's goal midway through the half.
A neat catch and strike from Lyng saw him register a goal of his own before Banville knocked home Wexford's fourth goal after getting the better of full-back Ger Oakley.
4-8 to 0-10 behind at half-time, Offaly opened the scecond half's scoring with a Rory Hanniffy point but there was no sign of any goals
- even from close range frees.
Redmon's 40th-minute goal put the result beyond any doubt as Colm Bonnar's side made it five wins in six league games.
