McMenamin appeal fails

Tyrone's Ryan McMenamin has failed in an appeal against a six-week suspension imposed following an incident in the county's league meeting with Kerry earlier this month, with the GAA last night instead increasing the ban to eight weeks.

McMenamin was hit with the additional suspension following a meeting the GAA's Central Hearings Committee after appealing the original ruling over the video footage of an incident involving him and Kerry's Paul Galvin during the February 15 tie.

The player had been charged with "behaving in a manner dangerous to an opponent"

The Tyrone County Board was meanwhile hit with a €2000 fine over "disruptive conduct" by their players immediately after the game.

Both parties have the option to now to appeal to the Central Appeals Committee.

Meanwhile, Meath's Kevin Reilly has had his yellow card against Cork during their February 1 clash rescinded.

Reilly was cleared by a meeting of the Central Hearings Committee last night based on video evidence and a recommendation from the Central Competitions Committee.

Westmeath hurler Andrew Mitchell, who was sent off against Offaly, has had a charge of dangerous play reduced to one of careless use of a hurley.

He was been warned that, if he gets a yellow card in the remainder of the league, he will be suspended for two weeks.
