A hat-trick of goals paved the way for Longford to take a three-point win over neighbours Cavan at Pearse Park, Longford.

A fisted 22nd minute Shane Doyle goal got the hosts off to the perfect start in the opening half, and although Gerard Pierson (0-06) top-scored for the visitors Longford kept going on the restart.

Second half goals from Padraig Shanley and Colm Flynn paved the way to a Longford win, with Shanley’s goal arriving after Cavan goalkeeper Fintan Reilly making an inspirational save.
