Laois gain impressive O'Byrne Shield win
Laois 2-14 Westmeath 1-09
Westmeath scored just one second-half point as reigning champions Laois gained an impressive O'Byrne Shield win in Mullingar this afternoon.
An early goal from Thomas McDaniel gave Westmeath a 1-07 to 0-06 interval lead.
Laois lost Donie Brennan through a leg injury but gained composure on the restart with goals from Chris Bergin and Brian McCormack.
They had a four-point buffer as the game entered the final quarter and pressed on to secure a final date with neighbours Carlow.
