Mortimer provides points for DCU

Mayo's Conor Mortimer top-scored (0-07) as DCU edged Laois by a point in a gripping O'Byrne Cup tie at Portarlington.

The students led by 0-7 to 0-4 at the break, but Laois bounced back on the restart despite conceding a 57th minute goal from Monaghan's Martin McIlroy.

The accuracy of MJ Tierney (0-4) from placed balls and a late Donie Brennan goal cut the deficit to a point, but DCU held an extra edge with a late Brian Sheridan point ensuring the win.
