Students stun Limerick in local derby

Late points from Kevin O'Brien and Enda Varley gave the University of Limerick a surprise McGrath Cup win over Limerick at Foynes.

Limerick's Maurice Carrig notched an early goal but UL fought back to take a 1-06 to 1-02 half-time lead.

Midfielder Paddy Byrne kicked three successive points for them and Stephen Lonergan blasted home an excellent goal.

Limerick, who had Shane Gallagher and Conor Mullane yellow carded, twice levelled the tie through Ian Ryan but UL dug deep to see out a gutsy victory.
