Daly confirmed as new Dublin hurling manager

Anthony Daly was officially confirmed as the new Dublin senior hurling manager at a meeting of the Dublin County Committee last night.

Succeeding Tommy Naughton in the role, he has agreed a two-year term with the Metropolitans.

Daly captained Clare to All-Ireland SHC titles in 1995 and 1997 and also managed his native county between 2003 and 2006.

He led the Banner to successive All-Ireland semi-finals in 2005 and 2006, but Cork and Kilkenny proved too strong at the penultimate stage in both years.

The Clarecastle man's most recent managerial appointment saw him succeed John Meyler as manager of Kerry club side Kilmoyley.

He managed Kilmoyley to a 1-18 to 0-08 win over Causeway in last month's Kerry county final.

Dublin will be hoping for improved fortunes in 2009 after they lost a Leinster semi-final to Wexford and failed to make it out of the All-Ireland SHC qualifiers this year.
