McIver to stay on as Donegal manager
Brian McIver has agreed to remain on as manager of the Donegal senior footballers, it has emerged.
McIver informed Donegal County Board officials on Wednesday night that he will continue to manage the team into 2009.
The Tyrone man stepped down from the position last summer but then changed his mind and reapplied for the job.
Last October he was ratified as Donegal boss for another three years, winning a vote by 38-6 as he beat off competition from Charlie Mulgrew, Jim McGuinness and Donal Reid.
McIver initially took on the Donegal position in September 2005, when he replaced long-standing boss Brian McEniff.
He guided the Tir Chonaill men to their first National League Division 1 title last year and obviously feels he can make further strides with a side that has failed to excel come championship time.
McIver will be without one of his backroom staff next season - Ballinderry man Adrian McGuckin, who has been involved in coaching UUJ for some time, has decided to step down from his Donegal role.
Despite their deflating championship exit at the hands of Monaghan recently, Donegal captain Kevin Cassidy feels there is hope for the future.
He said that there are 'things we can improve on and Brian is the man who can help us do that.'
