League holders Derry dumped out of Football Championship

League champions Derry were dumped out of the All-Ireland qualifiers as Monaghan won a pulsating tie at Clones today.
Paddy Bradley's fourth point pushed Derry 1-12 to 1-11 ahead but crucial late overs from substitute Shane Smith and top scorer Tommy Freeman saw Monaghan prevail.
Dick Clerkin's goal had the Farney men six points ahead but Derry cut that lead to 1-07 to 1-05, with Eoin Bradley netting in injury-time.
Derry managed to lead twice in the second period but the hosts had the stronger finish.
