Portumna cruise to All-Ireland win

Portumna have been crowned AIB All-Ireland SHC club champions for the second time in three years after beating a gallant Birr side this afternoon

Birr made a dream start at Croke Park with goals from Stephen Browne and Sean Ryan inside ten minutes.

But Portumna pulled clear to lead 1-11 to 2-4 at half-time thanks to Andy Smith's 14th-minute goal and four points from Joe Canning.

Teenage star Canning finished with 0-10 and second half goals from Smith and Damien Hayes sealed it for the Galway men.

Scorers: Birr: Simon Whelahan 1-7 (1-6f), Stephen Browne, Sean Ryan 1-0 each, Rory Hanniffy, Brian Whelahan 0-1 each.
