McIver reinstalled as Donegal boss
It seemed a far-fetched idea just two months ago, but Brian McIver, the man who resigned as Donegal senior football manager after his team's All-Ireland qualifier defeat to Monaghan, has been re-appointed to the position.
McIver quit as Tir Chonaill boss after his side failed to make a mark on the 2007 championship and build on the success of their first ever National Football League Division One title in May.
But two weeks after resigning and also publicly admitting that he would not be returning to inter-county management, the Ardboe man was convinced by his backroom staff to have a change of heart and he re-applied for a role he originally took on in September 2005.
The latest Donegal County Board meeting in Ballybofey saw him gain huge support from club delegates and he was duly re-appointed.
He beat off challenges from former player Jim McGuinness, ex-Fermanagh boss Charlie Mulgrew and former Donegal Under-21 manager Donal Reid, who were each interviewed for the vacant position.
